Stand-up comedienne to perform Thursday
by Meredith Martineau

Students will have the chance to experience comedy club humor right here on campus.

Comedienne Karen Loftus will be performing her stand-up comedy for Arkansas State University students this Thursday, Feb. 3, in the Wilson Hall Auditorium at 8 p.m. Loftus is being co-sponsored by the Student Activities Board and the ASU Theater Department.

Loftus is known for her sharp observations and making fun of daily experiences and life in general.

Her observational style of comedy has gained the attention of many audiences. Loftus has just completed a tour of the Middle East and England. She has performed in comedy clubs in New York and Los Angeles.

Her stand-up routine of "I'm Not the Blonde You Think I Am," was chosen to be performed in the new $4 million Tennessee Williams Center at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn., which opened in 1998. She was also awarded a Tennessee Williams Fellowship Award.

SAB Concert Coordinator Brit Miles said this performance is not only a chance for students to laugh and be highly entertained for an evening, but it is also a chance for the Theater Department and SAB to come together.

Miles, a junior speech communication major of Bald Knob, said "I am excited that SAV has this opportunity to build relations with the Theater Department."
Brandy Carson, a junior sociology major of Gosnell, said, "I think that having a comedienne perform at ASU will be highly entertaining, especially because there is a lot that she can observe on this campus."
