American Woman, a one-woman comedic invasion, is a character based edgy journey around the world. LA based international comedian Karen Loftus takes you along for the rocky ride as she travels around the world, weaving in and out of the US, Europe, Asia and the Middle East humorously exploring what it means to be an American, a Woman and an American Woman at home and in the world. She tells a series of surreal and humorous stories of her looking out at the world and the world looking back.

Following in her Irish grandmother's footsteps, she too longed for something else somewhere else. She didn't want to go to where her grandmother came from, Ireland, rather to where she went to, to an adventure.

It was through her travels abroad that she realized her label or role in the world was "American Woman". What is in a label and how is one expected to play out their role? She's seen how people hate each other all over the world, because of the labels they wear and the land they live on. Does face-to-face contact between people break down barriers or build them? Playing with stereotypes, her own and others, she makes fun of us making fun of each other.

"American Woman" is an ever-evolving show as new trips add new experiences and new insight. It was a completely different experience to go back to Southeast Asia after September 11th. She was already pushing the envelope where there wasn't one. But, she had no idea how controversial it would be to have traditional Muslim women run up to her on the street proclaiming, "I have a vagina!" She struck a chord and a nerve as a large media outcry followed her departure.

"American Woman" is a provocative, poignant and timely piece for anyone with a sense of humor, a sense of adventure or a sense of personal history. So fasten your seatbelts, it's going to be a bumpy night!
