Re: Karen Loftus
The clients of Via Avante look forward to classes conducted by Karen Loftus. By report, Ms. Loftus is a talented and engaging teacher, who has the ability to introduce new dimensions of self-expression through movement and dance. This process can bean effective option for helping individuals who are recovering form addiction, as they express their feelings and alleviate stress.
Classes conducted by Ms. Loftus can contribute to facilities and/or institutions, such as Via Avante, that serve clients who need to develop healthy ways to improve their emotional well being.
We appreciate the opportunity, to once again, schedule classes conducted by Ms. Loftus for our clients.
Sincerely,

Dear Ms. Loftus:
On behalf of the Los Angeles Country Sheriff's Department, I would
like to express our sincere appreciation for your presentation
provided positive interaction with the inmates. Your format allowed
the free expression and discussion by the inmates.
Custody Assistant Juan-Carlos Parra, who was present at the workshop.,
reports that "The inmates were positively impacted by Ms. Loftus'
class and truly benefited from the interaction. Ms. Loftus developed
a quick rapport with the inmates and was able to put even the
most skeptical inmates at ease. There were noticeable improvements
in the attitudes of the inmates who participated in the class,
and even in the attitudes of those that watched the class. Ms.
Loftus was able to break through the tough personas of these inmates
and help them rediscover their ability to smile and laugh."
We look forward to a continued relationship with you. We are confident
that together we will facilitate positive outcomes for the inmates
and staff of the Los Angeles County jail system.

To Whom It May Concern:
In January of this year, Karen Loftus was kind enough to donate
an entire morning to the Adolescent Services within our institution.
Ms. Loftus guided about twenty of our adolescent patients through
a bodywork and clowning workshop, during which time they experienced
meditation, yoga, stretching and many games, which delighted them.
The group with whom Ms. Loftus worked were, for the most part,
a wonderful but challenging group of individuals with diagnoses
including Major Depression, eating disorders, explosive disorders
and defiant disorders.
I was most impressed with Karen's ability to really connect and
touch these individuals personally and emotionally, as well as
her ability to hold their attention for an entire morning. But
they were rapt, and eager to learn what she had to teach them.
Her "cool CD's" and her appearance fascinated them, and after
the fact, many patients reported positive and therapeutic reactions
to her workshop. Many more surprised me by their capacity to wholly
participate and take risks in the games and role-playing exercises
she presented them with.
We were most grateful for the generosity of time and spirit that
Ms. Loftus so freely showed us. She appears to be one of those
highly evolved individuals who have tapped into the riches which
openness and acceptance and service effect. I would highly recommend
that an institution avail themselves of her services should they
have the opportunity.
Very truly yours,

Dear Karen:
I just wanted to let you know how much we appreciate the time,
talent and expertise you have given on behalf of THAW to the many
women in our outreach program at domestic violence and related
support shelters, both in the greater LA area and elsewhere.
Through your efforts we have been able to reach a wider audience,
extending to women as far as South Carolina to teenagers in Arkansas.
And the response to your work has been phenomenal! The comments
from your Body Comedy workshop participants have been more than
positive.
We look forward to your continued involvement and wish you the
best in all your other endeavors.
Best Regards,

To Whom It May Concern:
It is with great pleasure that I write this letter of reference
for Karen Loftus. Karen came to Safe Passage's domestic violence
shelter on October 29, 1999 and provided a much-needed service
to the women and staff at our facility. Karen provided a workshop
on relaxation and getting in touch with yourself; this was done
in a way that clients and staff could laugh and enjoy themselves.
After Karen left the clients came back to staff and said that
they had not laughed since they could not remember when, and were
able to relax for a little while without their children. They
thanked us for giving them the opportunity. It is my opinion that
this was a very beneficial service that we as a non-profit could
not have offered if not for Karen's generosity and commitment
to providing laughter to those who have not had that opportunity
for a long time.
I would recommend Karen without reservation to any group or individual
that is fortunate enough to be offered her service.
Sincerely,
Peggy J. Payne

Dear Karen:
On behalf of the women here at Harbour Community, W.A.V.E.'s domestic
violence transitional shelter, I would like to send out heartfelt
appreciation for bringing to us your fabulous comedy workshops.
The women loved the workshops.
The contents of your workshops certainly provide our clients with
n avenue to once again find humor and laughter after years of
abuse. For many, your workshops were the first time that they
have taken their minds off of their concerns. The women thoroughly
enjoyed you and your comedy. We hope that you will be able to
come to Harbour Community again in the very near future.
Thank you again for the laughter! We certainly needed it.
Sincerely,
Ann Beckham-Akerman

To Whom It May Concern:
It is with the highest regard that I write this letter of recommendation
for Karen Loftus. Karen came to our campus to teach two of out
acting classes and to do her workshop - Body Comedy - for 25 f
our theatre majors. I found Karen to be a terrific influence on
our students and her energetic style was quite conducive to our
atmosphere. Karen's approach to body and clown work through the
use of improv and theatre games was an excellent compliment for
out students to the kind of study they do now in some of our regular
theatre classes.
A number of our students commented on how Karen was very accessible
and approachable in her teaching style. They also commented on
how they felt so positive and supported in their work with Karen.
I had the opportunity to observe Karen in some of her work and
appreciated her ability to control 25 theatre students for 3 hours
from one high energy game to a subtle scene and clown work and
back again to high energy games.
The humor Karen brings to her sessions is quite an added quality!
Her standup background was of particular interest to many of our
students and Karen took the time to share her experience in this
area and was available to any of our students who wished to discuss
any aspect of standup comedy. Karen was sponsored by our Student
Activities Board to do an hour of her standup for an audience
of approximately 500 of both community and students and she was
a HUGE success! I recommend her on this level as well.
Anyone wishing to infuse their program with a high energy, informed
and competent movement and comedy person would do well to enlist
the efforts of Karen Loftus!
Most Sincerely,

To Jill Gurr,
This memo is to let you know that the girls greatly enjoyed the
body comedy and are constantly requesting to have Karen come back.
At this time, all my slots have been booked but due to the strong
participation and the enjoyable time the residents had, I will
definitely let you know if any slots become available. I will
keep in touch; I hope this helps. If you have any further questions,
please call.

To Whom It May Concern:
This letter is written in regards to Karen Loftus. Ms. Loftus
has been generously donating her time in doing workshops with
the women at Oasis Women's Recovering Community. These workshops
have been healing, relaxing and stress reducing.
These workshops have been conducted here at Oasis in 1999 and
also in the year 2000. The workshops have been fun and demonstrated
Karen's artistic abilities. We have been very pleased and are
grateful for the time spent with our women here at Oasis.
